International Kite Festival 2026 Kicks Off at UNESCO World Heritage Site Dholavira

Dholavira, Kutch: The sky over the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dholavira, turned into a vibrant canvas today as the International Kite Festival 2026 was inaugurated with grand fervor. The event, which showcases a blend of ancient heritage and modern spirit, was presided over by the Kutch District Panchayat President, Shri Janaksingh Jadeja.

Organized by the Gujarat Tourism Corporation Limited in collaboration with the Kutch District Administration, the festival saw the participation of over 60 kitists, including 17 international teams and 23 national representatives from across India, alongside local talent from Kutch.

Global Participation and Cultural Unity

The 2026 edition of the festival brought together world-class kite flyers from 17 countries, including Algeria, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, France, Greece, Indonesia, Ireland, Jordan, Russia, Malaysia, Philippines, Tunisia, Vietnam, and the UK. Additionally, kite enthusiasts from 7 Indian states and Union Territories, such as Delhi, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, displayed their unique and innovative kite designs.

"Under the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the state government is committed to preserving Indian culture through such grand celebrations. Dholavira's global recognition as a World Heritage Site combined with this festival is a significant boost for Kutch tourism," said Shri Janaksingh Jadeja during the inauguration.

Highlights of the Event

  • Folk Performances: The event featured mesmerizing Kutchi folk dances that captivated both international guests and local villagers.
  • Student Engagement: Large numbers of school children and tourists gathered to witness the massive, colorful inflatable kites.
  • Tourism Boost: Resident Additional Collector of Kutch welcomed the guests, emphasizing that Uttarayan is a symbol of joy and a golden opportunity for tourists to witness global art at a historic location.

The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Dholavira Sarpanch Shri Jilubha Sodha, Irrigation Committee Chairman Shri Rupeshbhai Ahir, and officials from the BSF and District Administration. The entire program was successfully coordinated by Shri Manan Thakkar.
