Bhuj, Kutch: A mild earthquake tremor was felt in the border district of Kutch in the early hours of January 13, 2026. The earthquake, which occurred near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dholavira, caused a brief moment of concern among local residents, though no damage has been reported.
According to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) in Gandhinagar, the movement deep within the Earth's crust was recorded at 3:05 AM, a time when most residents were fast asleep.
Epicenter and Magnitude Details
The earthquake measured 2.7 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was identified approximately 41 kilometers North-North-East (NNE) of Dholavira. Due to the relatively low magnitude, the tremors were light and did not cause any structural impact or casualties.
Geological Context
Kutch falls under Seismic Zone V, making it one of the most high-risk areas for earthquake activity in India. Geologists note that minor tremors are a common occurrence in this region due to its complex fault lines. Authorities have confirmed that the situation is normal and there is no need for panic.
