Gold Polishing Scam Alert : Retired Teacher Couple Robbed of 3 Tola Gold in Bodeli; Awareness Guide Included

Bodeli, Chhota Udepur : Despite constant warnings from authorities, old-school fraud methods are still claiming victims. In a recent incident in the Alipura area of Bodeli, a retired teacher couple was duped of 3 tolas of gold jewelry under the pretext of polishing them.

Crime News

The scammer approached the elderly couple at their residence in Ganga Nagar. To gain their trust, he first demonstrated his 'magic powder' by cleaning a copper vessel and silver anklets. Once the couple was convinced, he offered to polish their gold bangles.

The Modus Operandi

According to the victims' son, Nimesh Patel, the fraudster prepared a turmeric-colored solution in a bowl and asked the couple to place their gold bangles inside. Using sleight of hand, the criminal replaced or stole the jewelry while the couple was distracted and fled the scene immediately. Bodeli Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.

⚠️ How to Stay Safe from Such Frauds:

  • Never Allow Strangers Inside: Do not entertain individuals who visit your home offering to clean jewelry or utensils.
  • Avoid 'Instant Cleaning' Methods: Gold cleaning often involves chemicals that can dissolve gold or damage it. Professional jewelers are the only safe option.
  • Educate the Elderly: Scammers often target senior citizens who are alone at home. Make sure your parents and elderly neighbors are aware of these tactics.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you see strangers wandering in your society offering such services, inform the local police or society security immediately.
